Fall Reading Log
I started this list by pulling together everything I could find: my bookshelf, my Amazon history, my Kindle library, and a handful of half-remembered recommendations. That came to nearly 1,500 titles, which is not a reading list so much as an inventory.
So I cut it down. Several rounds of documenting, combining, and deduplicating later, what’s left is the short list on the books page: the books you’ve probably heard me bring up at some point, whether or not you asked.
A few things I enjoyed rediscovering along the way:
- The Design of Everyday Things gave us the term “Norman door,” for the kind of door that makes you push when you should pull. It was first published as The Psychology of Everyday Things.
- Sandworm gets its name from the Dune references researchers found buried in the hackers’ code.
- Mere Christianity started life as a series of BBC radio talks during World War II.
- The Soul of a New Machine, still waiting in my queue, won a Pulitzer Prize for a book about engineers building a computer.
The list is on the books page.
I’ll add a note here once I finish the next book.
